Sicily and Malta

Rotary Club La Valette Malta, is part of Rotary’s District 2110 which is one of the few bi-National Districts of Rotary International. This District is particularly dynamic and is made up of the Italian autonomous region island of Sicily and the Republic of Malta.  This District is characterised by a shared cultural heritage, breath-taking landscapes, and vibrant communities separated, yet joined, by 60 km of sea. Around 100 Rotary clubs in District 2110 Sicily and Malta are actively serving their local and overseas communities, addressing pressing issues, and creating lasting positive change. From supporting educational programs and healthcare initiatives to promoting environmental sustainability and fostering youth development, District 2110 Rotarians are committed to making a difference. The District encourages collaboration, fellowship, and international understanding among its members, fostering a strong sense of unity and a shared passion for service. Through these collective efforts, Rotary District 2110 Sicily and Malta aims to leave a lasting impact and contribute to the betterment of the region.

Carmela Ricciardello (Lina) District Governor 2026-2027

District Governor 2026-2027

Lina Ricciardello

Born in Brolo, she lived in Palermo with her family for 20 years.

She graduated from the Giovanni Meli Classical High School in Palermo with top marks.

For two years, she attended the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Palermo, achieving excellent results. Once married, she moved to the Faculty of Classics in Palermo, where she graduated in November 1973.

From 1974 to 2017, she taught at various high schools in the Messina hinterland, where she also served as school director.

She coordinated numerous teacher training courses, in which she served as a speaker. She has planned and managed various Comenius and Erasmus projects for students and teachers in collaboration with foreign schools and universities (Germany, Finland, Spain, Portugal and Türkiye).

From 1970 to 2003, she was the owner of the family business in the motorcycle and car sector (RI.CA., acronym for Ricciardello Carmela), and later co-owner of Vinci SPA – Fiat – Alfa Romeo – Lancia – Piaggio car dealership, with offices in Brolo, Capo D’Orlando and Patti.

She was co-owner of SAFAR, a financing company.

She has been divorced since 2005.

Currently, she works as a civil and commercial mediator.

She is also involved in the guest house and manages her own farm.

She has two daughters, Fiorella and Tiziana and four grandchildren (Giuseppe, Carlo Maria, Antonio Maria and Livia).

She has been a Rotarian since December 20th 1989, the year in which Rotary International opened to women. She was co-opted as the first woman in Sicily, together with Maritta Mellina, into the Rotary Club Patti – Terra del Tindari.

After holding various roles on the Board of Directors, she was elected President of the Club in 2002/2003, under Gov. Carlo Marullo of Condojanni.

Since that date, she has been continuously involved in the Club as a member of the board of directors, serving as secretary, prefect, delegate for internal and external communication, delegate to the RF instructor, and editor of the texts for the book of the year, among other roles.

Member of the Rotarian Gourmet Fellowship – Cuisine 15, she was a delegate for the Peloritana area for several years, organising well-attended meetings.

Member of the IYFR Rotary Fellowship – Poseidon Squadron, Sicily and Malta Fleet, she contributed to its establishment within the Rotary Club of Patte, serving as secretary.

She worked for the foundation of the Interact of the Club of Patti – Terra del Tindari, of which she is still a delegate.

In 2005, she contributed to the establishment of R.C. di Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto, of which he was an honorary member.

Since 2003, she has consistently served at the Rotary district level, with significant roles ranging from Assistant to the Governor to Member of the District Staff for several years. She has always been present at the various district Rotarian meetings. She has been a speaker on various environmental and socio-cultural issues. She coordinated “Life Long (Rotarian!) Learning” activities from 2015 to 2018, leading groups of Rotarians and non-Rotarians in Malta.

It also took action during the COVID period, within the Literacy district area, to create an online course “How to improve your communication strategy via social media”, which registered around 100 participants.   In recent years, she has been a district Rotary delegate for the Good News Agency, for the D.E.I., and, in the current year, for Women’s Emancipation. She has always carried out activities consistent with the task entrusted to her with a spirit of service, according to the indications of the Governor pro tempore, planning them with the relevant Commissions in a team spirit.

On January 14th, she was designated for the r.a. 2026/2027 Rotary District 2110 Governor of Sicily and Malta.

She has received numerous certificates of merit from the governors.
