RCLV’s 21 Year Humanitarian Commitment in South India

In 2004, the Indian Ocean Tsunami—the deadliest natural disaster in recorded history—was triggered by a magnitude 9.1 undersea earthquake off Sumatra. This catastrophic event brought the Rotary Club La Valette to South India.

Rotarian Edward Fenech will outline RCLV’s 21 years of support, which led to the construction of a 1,800-pupil CBSE school, an institution affiliated with India’s national Central Board of Secondary Education.

He will also highlight the development of a boys’ and girls’ home for orphaned children, which has since expanded into two additional children’s homes, a medical and welfare programme, and an educational initiative in collaboration with the University of Malta.

Edward will provide an update on the current programme of activities.

This remains the club’s longest‑running project, contributing over one million euros toward positive, long‑term development for children in Tamil Nadu, Southern India.
