A quiz night is always a welcome occasion for Rotarians and friends to come together, share laughter, and enjoy an evening of fellowship while supporting a worthy cause. This spirit was very much present at the Marsa Sports Club on 24 March 2026, where Rotary Club La Valette hosted a lively and well‑attended fundraising event in aid of Dar Tgħanniqa t’Omm, the beneficiary of this Year’s District Grant.
President Clare Vassallo opened the evening by warmly welcoming all participants and explaining the purpose behind the event. She highlighted the club’s commitment to supporting Dar Tgħanniqa t’Omm, a home that provides essential assistance to pregnant women facing difficult or vulnerable circumstances. The funds raised during the quiz night directly strengthen the home’s services, ensuring that more women receive the support they need.
Rotarian Tonio Fenech, former Minister of Finance and Chairman of Dar Tgħanniqa t’Omm, then addressed the audience. He offered a heartfelt overview of the home’s mission, describing how it provides not only shelter but also counselling, legal guidance, medical care, and social support. He emphasised the importance of empowering women to choose life for their babies. He shared several inspiring success stories—women who, thanks to the home’s support, returned to work or even pursued university studies while their children received professional care. His words reminded everyone present of the real human impact behind the evening’s fundraising efforts.
The quiz itself consisted of five engaging rounds covering Maltese history, science, music and show business, sport, and logic. Once all mobile phones were symbolically “confiscated,” the competition began in earnest. Eight enthusiastic teams, each seated around a table for eight, took on the challenge with energy and good humour. Quiz Masters Clare and Sandra La Rosa ensured proceedings ran smoothly, maintaining fairness and adding a touch of friendly discipline to keep the excitement high.
After the mental workout, guests enjoyed a delicious curry dinner, which provided the perfect opportunity for relaxed conversation and continued fellowship. The highlight of the evening, however, was the announcement of the winning teams. First place, with full marks, went to the team at Rotarian Matthew von Brockdorff’s table. Second place was awarded to Rotarian Annemarie Bianchi’s team, while third place went to the group led by Rotarian Ingrid Ratcliffe.
The club extends its sincere thanks to Charles Grech, S. Rausi Wine Dealers, and Il‑Forn tal‑Għawdxi of Birkirkara for generously donating the prizes. Their support contributed greatly to the success of a memorable evening dedicated to fellowship, fun, and service above self.
