Dar San Nikola Children’s Home

This year we are assisting Fondazzjoni Sebh who runs Dar San Nikola which is a residential home catering for a maximum of 12 children aged between 3 and 18+ who had to be removed from their family environment due to unfortunate circumstances which were exposing them to physical, sexual and/or psychological harm or neglect. The children live in small apartments which allow individualised care in a safe and loving environment with their own bedroom and shared kitchen, bathrooms and living area to create a family unit.  These two apartments were set up urgently and with whatever furniture available at the time.  Rotary Club La Valette are carrying out a major refurbishment of the bedrooms to ensure that the living environment of the children is one which promotes their safety, dignity and well-being as this is their main safe space in their innocent lives.  The solid wood furniture is being repaired and given a cheerful facelift, the  doors are being changed and additional furniture and furnishings purchased and made, mainly by Rotarians themselves during hands-on days starting in January 2024.  Once done, the children’s rooms will provide the warm and welcoming home that these children rightly deserve.  Anyone interested to assist with painting or sewing, please let us know and join us in making these children feel secure and loved.
