Rotary Club La Valette Champions Arts and Culture with Visit to the Storm Petrel Foundation

On 30th September, Rotary Club La Valette proudly organised a cultural visit to the Storm Petrel Foundation in Attard, reaffirming its commitment to supporting the arts and enriching Malta’s cultural landscape. The Foundation, housed in a beautifully restored historic building, welcomed Club members for an engaging afternoon that highlighted the importance of artistic expression and cultural preservation.

Ms Bernie Mizzi, Chair of the Storm Petrel Foundation, and her dedicated team provided an insightful overview of the Foundation’s mission, scope, and ongoing initiatives. Established to promote contemporary art and foster critical dialogue, the Foundation serves as a platform for emerging and established artists, curators, and researchers. It supports exhibitions, residencies, and educational programmes that explore the intersections of art, society, and identity—both locally and internationally.

The Foundation’s name, inspired by the resilient seabird that braves stormy seas, reflects its ethos: to champion bold, thought-provoking artistic work that navigates complex cultural currents. Its activities include hosting curated exhibitions, publishing scholarly and creative works, and collaborating with institutions across Europe to elevate Malta’s presence in the global arts community.

Rotary Club La Valette’s visit was not only informative but also a celebration of shared values. The Club recognises that arts and culture are vital to community development, education, and social cohesion. By engaging with institutions like the Storm Petrel Foundation, Rotary reinforces its dedication to fostering creativity, dialogue, and inclusion.

Following the presentation, members were treated to a warm reception, allowing for informal exchanges with the Foundation’s team and a closer look at the current exhibition.
