Una Hotel, Giardini Naxos, Sicily

Past and future District Governors with the administrative Team

Rotary Club La Valette participated in the District 2110 S.A.L.C. in Giardini Naxos on 16–17 May, where leaders from Sicily and Malta gathered for training, planning, and fellowship. The seminar focused on leadership development, membership growth, project impact, and Rotary’s shared commitment to creating lasting, meaningful change across our communities.

Giardini Naxos, 16–17 May 2026

Rotary Club La Valette was proudly represented at the 2026–2027 S.A.L.C. (Seminario Apprendimento Leadership di Club) by Incoming President Annemarie Bianchi and Treasurer and Incoming Assistant Governor David Dingli. Held at the UNA Hotels in Giardini Naxos, the seminar brought together delegates from all 103 Rotary Clubs in Sicily, Malta and Gozo for two days of intensive leadership development, strategic planning, and fellowship.

Promoted by District Governor Elect Lina Ricciardello, the S.A.L.C. serves as a cornerstone event in preparing incoming leaders for the Rotary year ahead. Proceedings opened with greetings from Rotary, Rotaract, Interact, Inner Wheel, and local authorities, setting a tone of unity and shared purpose.

During the plenary session, DGE Ricciardello outlined the district’s strategic direction for 2026–2027, emphasising servant leadership, membership growth, inclusion, and continuity. Her message captured the spirit of the weekend: “We are full of strength, energy, enthusiasm, passion and belief in Rotary.”

Strengthening Leadership and Club Capacity

A central focus of the seminar was equipping club leaders with the tools needed to “Create Lasting Impact” in their communities. Sessions addressed leadership development, membership engagement, Rotary Foundation priorities, sustainability, and measurable project impact. Distinguished speakers included Gioacchino Minelli, Diego Bivona, PDG Attilio Bruno, PDG Ferdinando “Nando” Testoni Blasco, and Alfredo Nocera, each offering insights drawn from Rotary and professional experience.

PDG Carlo Marullo di Condojanni presented the district’s forthcoming editorial project, “When Stones Speak – Squares and Fountains of Sicily and Malta,” celebrating the shared cultural heritage of the two islands.

RO.SA. – The Project of the Heart

One of the most meaningful moments of the seminar was the presentation of RO.SA.: the project of the heart, introduced by DGE Ricciardello and Commission President Maurizio Russo. The initiative supports eight Sicilian religious communities that welcome women victims of violence—often with their children—providing dignity, protection, and hope. The project embodies the values of the 2026–2027 Rotary year: service, social responsibility, and attention to fragility.

District Rewards, Innovation and Strategic Planning

The seminar also introduced the new District Reward Lines, designed not as a scoring system but as a strategic tool to guide clubs toward greater impact, sustainability, and participation. Presenters Alfio Grassi and Salvatore Attanasio highlighted key pillars: membership growth, active participation, sustainable planning, support for the Rotary Foundation, and engagement of new generations.

Innovative elements include incentives for Global Grants and GROC participation, creation of new Rotaract and Interact clubs, thematic satellite clubs, and stronger collaboration across Rotary family organisations. Strategic three‑year planning will ensure continuity and long‑term growth.

Communication, Public Image and AI Ethics

A well‑attended communication session, coordinated by PDG Salvatore Sarpietro, explored district media, visual identity, MyRotary, and the ethical use of artificial intelligence in Rotary communication—an increasingly relevant topic for modern club operations.

Fellowship and Closing

After a full day of work, delegates gathered for a Gala Dinner on Saturday evening, strengthening bonds of friendship and collaboration. The seminar concluded late Sunday morning, leaving participants inspired and well‑prepared for the year ahead.

Rotary Club La Valette extends its appreciation to District 2110 for an enriching and forward‑looking event that reinforces our shared mission of Service Above Self.
